Lots of stuff will be here soon!
We're still rebuilding the website - very shortly, we'll have a full section on George's Parliamentary activity, including speeches and questions, and on George's constituency activity, including campaigns, local events and local victories.
We’ll also give you a full list of George's upcoming events, appearances and campaigning work, as well as links to local and national campaigns, blogs, news sites and other sites we hope you’ll want to visit.
In the meantime, if you have any stories, information or questions, or good ideas for links/articles for this website, please get in touch! - and thanks for your patience!
I come from a time, politically, when communication was about meetings and street corner speeches and whatever media opportunities and soundbites one could muster.
I still do more meetings, I believe, than any other politician in the UK. More than 2000 since 9/11, covering hundreds of thousands of miles in Britain and abroad. Face-to-face contact is crucial
But what convinced me that I needed my own website and the ability to reach people who couldn't physically reach me was the wake, the tsunami, which inundated my office after my Senate appearance in 2005. I received more than 22,000 emails, thousands more than my small staff could even begin to hope they could answer.
And politics is about communicating ideas and messages and what better and more immediate a way to do it than by the internet. I cannot pretend the setting-up of this site has my hand on it but I do guarantee that every word that goes into it will be mine. I want to make this, with the help of my friends who know how to deliver it, the best and most responsive site on the net.
I’ll be writing commentary, commitments permitting, and arguing my case in cyberspace. I’ll try to keep a blog where possible, and I’ll make available as much video and audio coverage of the campaigns I’m involved with as possible.
I’ll be keeping constituents informed on the campaigns and activities that me and my Respect colleagues are involved with in Bethnal Green and Tower Hamlets.
I want feedback and I want argument. As well as suggestions and praise. Well, I am a politician after all.
It will take time to get this site working the way we want it to, and I ask for your patience.
I hope you enjoy this site. Once we’ve filled it with material, I hope it inspires you to get involved, to campaign against war, privatisation, cutbacks, racism, fascism and global injustice.
